Service Learning Event
The annual Service Learning Event held in September is sponsored by the Joe W. and Dorothy Dorsett Brown Foundation. It is a service learning kick-off to the school year! Principals, teachers and students from schools receiving a service learning award are invited to attend the event. Service partner organizations such as Longue Vue House and Gardens, The Green Project, Ronald McDonald House, New Orleans Museum of Art, STAIR (Start the Adventure in Reading), Fast Food Farm, African American Museum, Parkway Partners, LSU Coastal Roots, Beauregard-Keyes House and others offer hands-on activities and educational service opportunities for youth. Treats, lunch and award checks are presented to approved schools.
All schools in the parishes of Jefferson, Orleans, Plaquemines, St. Bernard, St. Charles, St. James, St. John, St. Tammany, Tangipahoa and Washington may apply for service learning funds for the 2012-2013 school year. We encourage you to attend or request a service learning workshop. The application for the 2012-2013 school year is online and may be submitted October 1, 2011 through March 16, 2012. Please contact us for additional information. Thank you.
