SERVICE LEARNING
is a simple teaching method
designed to help students learn!

It is a learn-by-doing approach to the curriculum.  Students get real life experiences in the subject studied by meeting  community needs through active participation.

Providing SERVICE LEARNING activities allows students to establish connections to their community and solve real community problems by applying  knowledge acquired in the classroom.

Students find participating in

SERVICE LEARNING activities helps them see the relevance of the materials taught in the classroom.

All SERVICE LEARNING projects should
consist of the following:

Student Preparation:  a link between service activities (community service) and specific classroom learning objectives.

Student Action: making a difference through acts of caring by personal contact in the community.

Student Reflection: a thoughtful consideration of the service experience, written or verbal, woven through out the service learning project.

Student Celebration Demonstration: Once the project is successfully completed, students are recognized through some type of simple celebration activity.
