Our Mission: To Alleviate Human Suffering
Joe W. (October 5, 1897-1959) and Dorothy Dorsett Brown (March 31, 1896-1989) were dedicated to philanthropy during their lifetimes. The Brown Foundation was established in 1958 and began functioning as a private family charitable foundation in 1989. The president of the Brown Foundation is D. Paul Spencer, a long-time employee and friend of Mr. and Mrs. Brown. On behalf of the Browns, Mr. Spencer operates the Foundation with a deep sense of pride and dedication.
The Foundation is now highly involved in medical and environmental research; housing for the homeless; support for organizations that care for the sick, hungry or helpless; religious and educational institutions; as well as organizations and groups concerned with improving our local communities.
The efforts of the Foundation are restricted to the states of Louisiana and Mississippi. The focus is on South Louisiana, the New Orleans area and the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
